What’s the difference between lay and lie?

lay

The verb lay means ‘to put something down carefully in a flat position’. 

നിങ്ങൾ എന്തെങ്കിലുമൊന്ന് എടുത്ത് കിടത്തുന്നതിനെയോ വക്കുന്നതിനെയോ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ നിരത്തുന്നതിനെയോ ആണ് lay എന്ന verb കൊണ്ട് അർത്ഥമാക്കുന്നത് 

I lay my book on the table every night before turning out the light. 

He/she lays his/her book on the table 

It must have an object. 

It is a regular verb, but note the spelling of the past simple and -ed form: 

laid not layed: 

lay-laid-laid-lays-laying 

I laid my book on the table last night. 

I will lay my book on the table tonight. 

I am laying my book on the table right now. 

I have laid my book on the table every night for years. 

A wonderful wooden floor has been laid in the dining room.

നിങ്ങൾ സ്വയം കിടക്കുന്നതിനെയാണ് Lie എന്ന verb കൊണ്ട് അർത്ഥമാക്കുന്നത്.

 Lie is a verb which means ‘to be in or put yourself into a flat position’. 

It is an irregular verb and it doesn’t take an object. 

The -ing form is lying and the past simple is lay. 

The -ed form, lain, is very formal and is rarely used: 

lie ,lay ,lain ,lying ,lies 

I love to lie on a beach and read.

5. When Raji comes home every afternoon, she lays her coat on the chair by the door.

This sentence is correct. She puts or places her coat on the chair. “Coat” is the direct object, the thing that was placed.

6.Yesterday Raji laid on his sofa watching television for three hours.

കിടക്കുക എന്നാണിവിടെ അർത്ഥം വരുന്നത് . Thus, it should have used the past tense of the verb to lie, which is lay.

Correction: Yesterday Raji lay on her sofa watching television for three hours.
